A NEW tourism and leisure resort will be built in Jiaonan, a satellite city of Qingdao. The US$1 billion project will be developed and managed by Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, a luxury hotel group based in Singapore.

    Construction of the resort began Oct. 28.

    The Qingdao Town project, funded by the Singapore Government and Shandong Kewen Investment Holdings Co., will be located on the southern slope of Xiaozhu Mountain next to the sea. It will include a five-star hotel and resort, a shopping mall, a children’s park, villas, and hiking areas.

    Banyan Tree runs 26 branch luxury hotels and resorts around the world.

    Qingdao Town is to the south of Qingdao in an area boasting beautiful mountains and coast.
