Lady Gaga dominated the MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid on Sunday, picking up prizes for best female, best pop act and best song (“Bad Romance”).
The 24-year-old songstress was in Budapest for a concert and so accepted her awards via video link.
Jill Clayburgh dies
Jill Clayburgh, the sophisticated* Hollywood and Broadway actress known for portrayals of empowered* women in a career spanning five decades, has died. She was 66. Clayburgh died on Friday surrounded by her family at her home in Lakeville, Connecticut, after a 21-year battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia*.
Golden Horse festival
The 2010 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival opened on Thursday with the local film “Juliets.”
The love drama produced by Ang Lee’s younger brother, Khan, centers on three women all named Juliet but respectively living in the 1970s, 1980s and 2010.
Record sales
Country-pop singer Taylor Swift thanked her fans last Wednesday for buying more than 1 million copies of her new album “Speak Now,” making it the biggest first week seller in five years. Official Nielsen SoundScan figures showed that “Speak Now” sold 1,047,000 copies in the United States during the week ended October 31.
