EBUILT from old buildings, six industrial functional areas approved by the city government, including Jiaozhou Yanghe Equipment Manufacturing Industry, Jimo Longquan Car Parts Industry and Pingdu Xinhe Chemistry Industry areas, are all ready to start construction. The 62 projects each costing more than 100 million yuan were introduced to these areas this year.

    About 1.8 billion yuan had been spent on infrastructure construction from January to September and a total of about 2.3 billion yuan was expected to be spent this year.

    So far, about 130 million yuan has been spent on the Jimo Longquan Car Parts Functional Area and a 33.6-km water pipeline for the Jimo Nudao Ship Area has cost 35.85 million yuan so far, while the Pingdu Xinhe Chemistry Area has cost 280 million yuan and the Jiaozhou Yanghe Equipment Manufacturing Area 900 million yuan. The 100-million-yuan road project for the Jiaonan Dongjiakou Heavy and Chemical Industrial Park had spent 100 million yuan on main street construction work which will start soon. The Laixi Jiangshan Light Manufacturing Functional Area had spent 200 million yuan on roads.

    The new projects were introduced to areas where three companies had already started production, 35 companies had already started working and 24 have signed cooperation contracts. The total sum of contracted investments was 72 billion yuan. Among these, the Qingdao Shipyard in Nudao Island, Jimo, Qingdao Car Part Co., in Longquan, Jimo, Qingdao Engine Factory and Qingdao Baiyinghua Co. Ltd. in Jiangshan, Laixi, Qingdao Shuangtao Chemical Industry Co. Ltd., and Qingdao Haijing Chemical Industry Co. in Dongjiakou, Jiaonan, have all started or finished construction. Meanwhile, the Qingdao Yangfan Shipyard in Nudao, Jimo, has already spent 1.1 billion yuan and Zhuangming Nuclear Project is now in the preparatory stages, while the main structure of the No. 1 workshop from the project by Qingdao Dongfang Co., in Jiaozhou is finished.
