Eight communities to be protected

    THE city government added eight historical and cultural communities into the city’s protection list, a news conference was told Nov. 9.

    The Olympic Sailing Base built in 2008 and its surrounding blocks are included in the historical and cultural protection list.

    A citywide research for historical and cultural relics started in May 2009 in Qingdao, taking 3,622 sites into protection.

    The protected area increased from 655 hectares to 815 hectares.

    The sites are categorized into historical architecture, industrial heritage, Olympics heritage, military heritage, cultural communities and traditional residential houses.

    The eight new communities under protection are Liyuan Yard on Sifang Road, Wudi Road Community, Qingdao Beer Industry Cultural Community, Maoqi Militant Cultural Community, Yierti Commander Camp, Zhanshan Buddhist Temple, Haiyun’an Folk Culture Community and Olympic Sailing Base.(Tina Chen, Li Wei)
