NEARLY 1,400 households eligible to rent apartments in Kangju Residential Estate, a low-rent public housing, started choosing their units Nov. 13.
They can move into the homes in mid-December and the monthly rent is 0.75 yuan (10.9 cents) per square meter.
All apartments are ready for residents to move in with a wooden floor, a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom as well as a central heating system.
Kangju Residential Estate is the biggest public housing project in Qingdao, covering an area of 118,000 square meters.
The estate provided 510 one-bedroom apartments, 662 two-bedroom apartments and 800 three-bedroom units.
An 18-class primary school and a nearly 4,000-square-meter farm produce market have been built nearby. There is also a community service center and a service center for the disabled.
