AVANT-GARDE artists Wang Guangyi, Zhang Xiaogang, Fang Lijun, and Yue Minjun are big names in contemporary Chinese art. Now their art is on display at the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal (OCAT) as part of a special exhibition celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Shenzhen Overseas Chinese Town Co. (OCT).
Titled “Art OCT — an Exhibition of Contemporary Art Collection for the OCT 25th Anniversary,” the exhibition showcases 25 pieces including paintings, photographs and sculpture from OCT, He Xiangning Art Museum and OCAT.
Wang’s huge painting, “Hello, World,” Zhang’s huge painting, “Large Family,” and Fang’s “Song of Joy” were displayed at OCT’s three Metro stations — Shi jie Zhi Chuang, Hua Qiao Cheng and Qiao Cheng Dong — for a week in 2006 before they joined the permanent collection at OCAT.
Yue’s large painting, though untitled, features his trademark laughing figures — actually the artist himself in various guises. The piece was shown at Yue’s one-man art exhibition in the He Xiangning Art Museum in 2006 before it was acquired by the museum.
Since its establishment in 1985, OCT has made huge investments in art. So far, OCT has collected more than 500 pieces by young and middle-aged artists from more than 10 countries, representing the best of contemporary Chinese art.
