A Chinese knowledge competition was held for expatriates to show their Chinese skills Nov. 28 at the international academic exchange center of Qingdao University.
Two South Koreans won first prize in the primary and middle school and university competitions. Students from Congo, the United States and Japan also gave excellent performances.
A preliminary contest was held in May, attracting 202 competitors, including 82 college students and 120 primary and middle school students.
Twenty competitors were selected to enter the final, which featured Chinese speech and knowledge, questions and answers, and a talent show.
During the final, competitors answered questions about Chinese culture and history. Some wore traditional Chinese dress and demonstrated traditional Chinese handcraft. There were also competitors who spoke with a Qingdao accent.
According to figures, there are more than 30,000 expatriates living in Qingdao and 2,480 foreign students studying at seven foreign schools. (Jane Lai, Sun Jingfang)
