    Maksim brings trademark music

    Maksim Mrvica, the superstar pianist from Croatia, will give a piano recital featuring his trademark fusion of classical and contemporary music at Shenzhen Concert Hall on Friday night.

    Mrvica is recognized for his nimble playing style. The Shenzhen program includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Flight of the Bumble-bee,” Ernest Gold’s “Exodus,” Tonci Huljic’s “Croatian Rhapsody,” Dvorak’s “New World Concerto” and Freddie Mercury’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

    Old Wolf to howl at concert hall

    A pioneering icon of Chinese campus folk music, Lao Lang, 42, will stage a concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall on Sunday.

    He was named Wang Yang at birth but acquired the nickname Lao Lang, literally meaning Old Wolf, during his college days when his rock band compared his wild singing style to howling like a wolf.

    Comedy play

    A stage comedy titled “Meet an Unkonwn Self” will be staged at Shenzhen Grand Theater on Saturday and Sunday.

    Featuring urban life, the drama was adapted from the book of the same name by Taiwanese writer Zhang Defen. It is the first time one of Zhang’s works has been adapted into a play.

    The dances in the drama were choreographed by Xue Gao, choreographer for Chinese superstar Jay Chou.

    A poetry reading night will be held at the studio center of the Shenzhen Media Group on Dec. 10.

    At least 10 Chinese actors and actresses, including Song Chunli, Yan Xiaopin, Ding Jianhua and Xu Huanshan, will take part in readings.
