THE city has spent about 70 billion yuan (US$10.5b) in transport infrastructure construction over the past five years.
With new road networks, urban areas of Qingdao can be reached within one hour and other cities on Shandong Peninsula within three hours from anywhere in the city.
About 30 billion yuan was spent building and maintaining roads. The city started construction work on 132 projects and work on 111 projects had been completed.
The southern and northern sections of Binhai Road were already open and construction of the main section of the Qingdao Bay Bridge and an undersea tunnel had been completed.
The high-tech zone road network has taken shape with seven new main roads under construction as well as five projects to widen existing roads.
Construction on the second Huanwan Road had already started.
Highways connecting Qingdao and Pingdu, Rongcheng and Wuhai, and the Qingdao section of a highway to Lanzhou were in use.
Roads have been built from old city downtown area to new industrial zones.
About 100 projects involved in repairing existing roads had cost about 4.7 billion yuan. After renovations, 76 percent of the city’s roads were in good condition.
The city had spent 2.6 billion yuan on 5,600 km of asphalt roads to connect 3,900 villages.(Chen Ting, Li Xiaohan)
