QINGDAO has been running articles in English newspapers and hosting international events to promote the city to international communities.
The weekly issue of Qingdao Today, published in association with the U.S. newspaper International Daily News, has a number of readers in America, Australia, Indonesia and Malaysia.
The issue updates readers on the city’s development in economy, society and culture so they learn it is not just a green coastal city for sailing and vacations but also a bustling modern metropolis good for investment.
Columns about Qingdao are regularly published in English newspapers in China, including the China Daily, Shanghai Daily and Shenzhen Daily.
Four programs including “Focus on Qingdao,” “Blue Qingdao” and “Qingdao Sailing” are broadcast on China Radio International. Stories about Qingdao are also run on the Internet.
International events such as the 2008 Olympic Sailing Regatta have helped to promote the city worldwide.
Two sailing camps were organized in association with the German city of Kiel and cooperation was established with the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup and the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
So far, 39 marketing campaigns have been run in 23 countries and regions to promote Qingdao as a city of sailing.
