Qingdao improves public transport
     2010-December-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

QINGDAO has built a well-structured and efficient public transport network with continuous efforts over the past five years.

There are almost 5,000 buses running on 170 bus routes totaling 3,615 kilometers, much more than five years ago.

More than 700 million people use the bus service each year.

From 2006 to 2010, Qingdao opened 20 new bus lines, adjusted five bus lines and offered 270 buses, to synchronize the development of bus services in rural and urban areas.

A submarine tunnel connecting downtown to Huangdao District is scheduled to be completed by next May.

The city invested a total of 1.54 billion yuan in the past five years on 2,664 large buses with low carbon emission.

More than 80 percent of the city’s buses comply with the stricter national III emissions standard. About 400 buses use new energy such as electricity and natural gas.

The city has applied 3G technology to buses and installed video surveillance.
