NINE products won awards at China Creative Design recently, in which a BF50 high-speed cutter by the Qingdao Nauticstar Marine Co. Ltd. was the only small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) to win the award. Industrial design has helped the company win contracts and opportunities. Just recently, the company signed a contract to make boats for the Clipper Round of the World Sailing Race. It was also the manufacturer of staff boats for the Olympic Sailing Race. They invited well-known designer Luigi Colani to upgrade their design and materials and entered international market successfully.

    SMEs in Qingdao have been more passionate in industrial design in recent years and their designs had covered more areas such as electronic products, equipment and transport, said Wang Haining, vice chairman of the city’s association of industrial design.
