Biggest container vessel arrives from Germany
     2010-December-28  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE world’s biggest container ship, a German vessel capable of carrying 14,036 containers, arrived at Qingdao Port on Dec. 20, which was the biggest container ship stopped at the port. The ship will sail between Hamburg Hafen and Qingdao Port every two months.

“We are the biggest container vessel in the world with the total length of 365.5 meters and width of 51.2 meters. Our deck has the coverage of about 50 standard basketball courts,” the captain of the ship said. The ship was about 67.3 meters tall, similar to a 20-floor building.

The ship was manufactured by a South Korean company and is one of the most advanced vessels in the world with the world’s leading automatic navigation system. Its first destination was Qingdao Port.

The arrival of the ship has proved that the fourth phase of the Qingdao Port is now fully capable of servicing the world’s biggest ships. (Wang Yuanyuan, Yu Fangping)
