QINGDAO has announced plans to develop key technology in the Internet of Things in the next five years.
The Internet of Things, also known as the Internet of Objects, refers to the networked interconnection of everyday objects. It is described as a self-configuring wireless network of sensors, the purpose of which would be to interconnect all things.
Accelerating the development and application of the Internet of Things technologies was of great significance to the city’s industrial upgrading towards a high-end industrialization, said the city government.
The Internet of Things has been listed as one of the State’s emerging industries of strategic significance.
Qingdao will focus on the research and development of the five key aspects of technology in the Internet of Things: radio frequency identification devices, new sensor technology, short-distance wireless communication, networking technology, integration technology of the application of the Internet of Things.
The technology will be applied to intelligent transportation, digital homes, food safety, urban management, modern logistics, precision agriculture and manufacturing.
The city government will introduce research and development institutes as well as manufacturing enterprises from home and abroad to complete and enhance its industrial chain of the Internet of Things.
The city will also strive to construct national model manufacturing bases of the Internet of Things products.
