QINGDAO planned to build a number of high-standard production bases with high output and high technology and incubate new agricultural companies in five years to cultivate vegetables, fisheries, animal husbandry, fruit, tea and flowers.
According to a plan released recently, the total output value of the five sectors would account for more than 85 percent of the agricultural industry by 2015 and average incomes for farmers would increase by 1,800 yuan a year.
In 2015, the cultivated area of vegetables would be about 153,333 hectares. Greenhouse vegetables would occupy about 53,333 hectares and vegetable production would reach 9.2 million tons valued at 13.8 billion yuan.
Aquatic products will reach 1.25 million tons valued at 13 billion yuan. The output of the animal husbandry industry will reach 14.5 billion yuan, with 85 percent of animals cultivated by standards.
The cultivation area for fruit would be 66,666 hectares producing 1.5 million tons valued at 4 billion yuan. Dried fruit would occupy more than 20,000 hectares producing 420,000 tons valued at 1 billion yuan.
Tea would be grown on about 8,000 hectares with production value of green tea to reach 600 million yuan with a coastal tea industrial zone to be built in five years.
Forestry cultivation would occupy about 8,666 hectares and the cultivation area for flowers would be about 666 hectares with 80 percent grown in greenhouses. Total production value was expected to reach 2.5 billion yuan.
The city would also build 10 standard cultivation bases, 10 fish farms and five algae farms in five years. Ocean fishing would also be encouraged with fishing production expected to reach 7,000 tons. (Wang Yuanyuan, Liu Kunfeng)
