Stanley Huang joins Xu Jinglei again for new film
     2011-April-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    徐静蕾与黄立行新片《亲密敌人》再度携手

Same leads*. More dramatic* plots*. Those are the reasons why director Xu Jinglei has called her new film an updated version of her office romance drama “Go Lala Go!.”

Xu announced last week in Beijing that her new film “Qin Mi Di Ren” (“Intimate Enemies”) would star herself and Stanley Huang, just like “Go Lala Go!,” a major blockbuster* at Chinese cinemas last year.

“Stanley is the first name that came to my mind when I looked for a male lead for the new film,” Xu was quoted by Sina.com.cn as saying. “He and I had a great time working together on ‘Lala,’ and I owe* a great deal to him for helping ‘Lala’ do well at the box office.”

Xu said her market research team told her that a remarkable proportion of movie-goers went to see “Go Lala Go!” because of Huang, who is also a hip-hop idol.

As for the plot, Xu said: “The new story will be more dramatic and tense than that of ‘Lala.’ You can definitely call it an updated version of ‘Lala.’”

Xu, who also wrote the story, has set the new film in the financial industry. She has invited several high-ranking bank managers to advise her on the script*.

The film will start shooting on April 27 in Hong Kong. Xu is eying a New Year’s release.

“Intimate Enemies” will be the fifth directorial work of Xu, who was already a popular actress before turning to filmmaking. She has appeared as the lead actress in every film she has directed.

Xu told reporters that “Intimate Enemies” would be the last film she would both direct and act in.
