Taiwan universities to recruit SZ students
     2011-April-6  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

    台湾私立大学将招内地高中毕业生

    Wang Yuanyuan

Students from six provinces and cities on the Chinese mainland can apply to enter universities in Taiwan as of this year, but high school graduates can only apply to enter private universities.

According to an enrollment brochure released last week, students from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian and Guangdong provinces and Beijing and Shanghai can apply for Taiwan universities with their scores for the National College Entrance Examinations (NCEE).

Each high school graduate can apply for five majors at one university, while students applying for postgraduate schools and doctoral courses can only apply for one major, the brochure said.

There are 86 private universities in Taiwan and they plan to enroll 1,488 mainland students in total this year.

There are 134 Taiwan universities which open to mainland students, but public universities can only enroll students applying for master’s or doctoral degrees.

All of the universities only accept online applications and candidates can apply starting mid May.

Most universities said they would only enroll students whose NCEE scores were higher than the standard entrance score for a mainland key university as they wanted to enroll the best students from the Chinese mainland. “We will also try our best to create a good and equal environment for them,” Lee Si-chen, president of a Taiwan university, said.

Some universities plan to launch promotional activities across mainland cities next year in the hope of enrolling more top mainland students.
