I still cannot believe that I am now the student chief editor of our school’s English newspaper. Of course I am nervous as well as excited.
First of all, I really appreciate what our newspaper’s first chief editor, editors and journalists do. They work hard for our newspaper, including interviewing students and teachers when there are big events in our school, writing articles and calling on more students to join in our “family.” I am grateful for their hard work which led to the improvement of our newspaper. We will keep on learning from them.
Maybe you are unfamiliar with me. I am from Class 12, Senior 2, in which I act as the English course representative. And I was the editor of page 2 of our newspaper in the last term. Apart from studying, I love singing, playing badminton and volleyball and reading novels. In fact, I am not very outgoing, but I really want to challenge myself.
Now I have to face a huge variety of students, communicate with them and even help them work. So you can see it’s sometimes difficult for me to adapt myself. However, full of confidence, I’m sure I can do a good job with effort and practice.
When I was an ordinary editor, what I needed to do was to collect articles from our active journalists, correct mistakes in those articles and submit them to the chief editor. To be honest, it was easy but helped me improve my English.
I really learned a lot from my experience as an editor. Just imagine, if you read a few articles carefully which you haven’t read before, your vocabulary will be enlarged. There is no doubt that you will be able to read faster and even write better than before.
But I haven’t reached my highest goal, which is to speak and write like a native speaker, so I have to improve my English constantly. Now, I am trying to read more, write more and not miss any opportunity to learn English.
As the student chief editor, it’s my duty to try my best to improve the newspaper, which also needs everyone’s involvement. We encourage our schoolmates to write down what they think and experience, send articles to us, and give us suggestions.
