Ataraxia comes to town
     2011-April-7  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Italian neoclassical band Ataraxia will tour Shenzhen and give a concert at the Sugar Jar Space in Futian District on April 24.

Comprising Francesca Nicoli (voice, flute, cymbals), Vittorio Vandelli (synth, medieval guitars, vocals), Giovanni Pagliari (keyboards, harmonizing, vocals) and Riccardo Spaggiari (percussion), Ataraxia combines modern technology with archaic instrumentation over various media.

They describe their music as mergence of “sacred and profane, ethereal and neo-classical, contemporary and early music.” They research European legends, integrating Greek and Latin myths. Their lyrics are written in a variety of ancient and contemporary languages. Many of their performances take place in locations the band believes to possess specific spiritual qualities. Since the founding of the group in the late 1980s, they have released more than 20 original LPs.
