HK film awards
Hong Kong’s annual film awards gave its top prize on Sunday to “Gallants,” a low-budget action comedy about a kung-fu master who briefly wakes up from a 30-year-old coma* to train two aging students and two newcomers.
Tsui Hark’s Tang Dynasty thriller*, “Detective Dee and the Mystery of The Phantom Flame,” gained six awards, including best director and best actress for his leading lady, Carina Lau.
Best actor went to Nicholas Tse for his portrayal of a police informant* in Dante Lam’s “The Stool Pigeon.”
Zhang Yuqi engaged
Actress Zhang Yuqi, who ended her high-profile relationship with Beijing luxury club businessman Wang Xiaofei just five months ago, has gotten engaged to internationally acclaimed film director Wang Quan’an.
Patty Hou weds bank manager
Taiwan TV host Patty Hou married her bank manager fiance Ken Huang on Sunday at Bali, Indonesia, saying she is in no hurry to have children. The 32-year-old TV host’s ceremony was reportedly a low-key affair, only inviting friends and relatives.
Nicolas Cage arrested
U.S. actor Nicolas Cage was arrested over the weekend after he got drunk in New Orlean’s French Quarter and argued in the street with his wife over whether a house they were in front of was theirs. The couple was in front of a home that Cage insisted they were renting. When she said it wasn’t theirs, Cage grabbed her arm. (SD-Agencies)
