More than 40,000 Chinese students have come to Shenzhen after having studied abroad over the past 10 years as of February, according to the city’s Foreign Experts Bureau last week.
About 1,646 students came to Shenzhen to work or start their own businesses, in which 80 percent were non-Shenzhen hukou holders before going abroad, the bureau said.
Most of these students studied in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia and their majors mainly include management and finance.
Other majors include information technology, biology, education and architecture.
The number of students coming back from Australia, Japan, France and New Zealand has increased sharply over the recent years.
About 34 percent were students studying in the United Kingdom.
Seventy-six percent were aged under 30.
The city plans to hold job fairs in Australia and Europe this year to introduce more Chinese students studying abroad with high educational backgrounds to settle down in the city, the bureau said.
