Shenzhen writers promoted at ICIF
     2011-May-19  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

BOOKS by Shenzhen writers published since 2006 were exhibited May 15 at Hall 7 at the 7th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF).

A number of well-known Shenzhen writers met readers and presented more than 200 of their books at the exhibition.

Arranged by the Shenzhen Federation of Literature and Art Circles, Shenzhen Writers Association, and Shenzhen Publishing Group, the exhibition featured fiction, poetry, essays, reportage, literary criticism, film and TV plays, campus literature, and new media literature.

Each book was displayed with an overview and the reason it was recommended.

The selection of the books was based on their award-winning history, public response, academic value or sales.

There are many famous writers in this city. Xue Yiwei, born in 1964, wrote the novel “Abandon” in 1989, which received close attention in the country. Ai Xiaoming from Zhongshan University said the negligence of this novel would lead to an ambiguous understanding of literary life in China at the turn of the century. Yang Zhengguang’s two major works, including “Laodan Is a Tree” (1997) and “Yang Zhengguang Short Story Collection” (2004) have been translated into French, English and Italian.

His new work, “Six Chapters of Young Zhangchong,” was published by the People’s Publishing House and won the 2010 People’s Literature Award. Deng Yiguang’s long story “I Am My God,” published by Beijing Publishing House in 2008, also won the National Book Award. Cao Zhenglu, a down-to-earth grass-roots writer, also published “Wen Cangmang” in 2009, which was widely regarded as a masterpiece of realism, analyzing the panorama of the city’s 30 years’ development in a three-dimensional perspective.

Other writers such as Yang Liguang, Chen Bin, Li Lanni, Yang Honghai and Hou Jun also presented their latest works at the fair.

Deng said literature in Shenzhen was prospering. “It is young, dynamic, and hopeful, just the same as the city,” he said.

The exhibition will also be held in Hong Kong to promote the works to international readers.(Tina Chen)
