Top Cannes fest honor
American director Terrence Malick's expansive drama "The Tree of Life" won the top honor at the Cannes International Film Festival on Sunday, while Kirsten Dunst took the best-actress prize for "Melancholia."
The Palme d'Or prize was accepted on Sunday by two "Tree of Life" producers, Dede Gardner and Bill Pohlad, for the notoriously* press-shy Malick, who has skipped all public events at the glamorous Cannes festival.
Court order
A judge granted Lindsay Lohan a restraining* order against a man who left chocolates at her house and sent her bizarre* text messages saying they are engaged, court records show.
David Cocordan, 38, has been contacting Lohan for nearly two years and sent her more than 100 texts. Superior Court Judge David Cowan granted the temporary order, prohibiting Cocordan from attempting to meet or contact the actress.
Movie comeback on hold
Former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has placed his movie comeback* on hold "until further notice" to focus "on personal matters," his lawyer said on Thursday. The announcement comes two days after the revelation that Schwarzenegger fathered a child with his former housekeeper.
Los Angeles film fest
Richard Linklater's "Bernie," starring Jack Black, Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey, has been selected to serve as the opening night film of the Los Angeles Film Festival.
In the movie, which will kick off the fest on June 16, Black plays a mortician* in a small Texas town and MacLaine appears as the town's richest and meanest widow.
