IN the 66.2×75.5 cm lithograph painting, “Signe-N,” a piece of white, plicate cloth lies on a table against a dark background, demonstrating a three-dimensional effect.
“Signe-N” was done by Sonoyama Harumi, a well-known Japanese artist, and has earned him first prize in the 2011 Guanlan International Print Biennial.
A total of 15 print works claimed awards among 248 entries for this year’s biennial, which are being displayed at the China Guanlan Original Printmaking Base in Bao’an District.
The award-winning works include figure paintings and still life paintings, in color or black and white, which were created by artists from countries like the United States, Britain, South Korea, Greece, Belgium, Poland and Thailand.
This year’s biennial attracted 3,697 works submitted by 1,991 artists from 81 countries and regions, a record number in the history of the biennial.
The biennial is scheduled to be closed June 12.
The first biennial was held in 2007 and has gradually become an international exhibition driving the development of the printmaking base.
