Caring children compete for housework
     2011-June-8  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

做家务 献爱心

A total of 20 children participated in a competition at Central Walk in Futian District on June 1, celebrating Children's Day by sharing ideas to help others.

The children competed in housework, photography and care together with their parents, according to the organizer of the event, Shenzhen branch of Yum Restaurants (China) Investment Company Limited, last week.

Five children who won the competitions went to visit students in Labazhiwan Primary School in Yulong Mountain, Yunnan Province, during the dragon boat festival holiday. They stayed with local families, experiencing the local way of life.

The 20 children were chosen from more than 100 applicants. All were required to provide an idea of how to spend one yuan to promote caring activities.

"I will send 10 text messages with one yuan, telling more people to do something for others," said Wang Ziyu, a fifth grader from Tianjian Primary School in Futian District.

"I will use one yuan to buy five pieces of papers and paint posters and then make the posters into a box to raise money for children in rural areas," said Luo Yang, a second grader from Yangguang Primary School in Futian District.

The company conducted the program since 2008, attracting more than 3,000 families around the country to participate. The activity has raised more than 25 million yuan, including 5.2 million yuan donated by company staff. The money was mainly used to buy food for children in rural areas, the organizer said.
