Cinco de Mayo

   A Letter from Princeton

(Li Laiyin graduated from Shenzhen Middle School and is now studying at Princeton University in the United States.)

    Dear Readers,

The weather in Princeton has been very erratic since May. At times, clouds dot the blue sky as brisk winds blow, while at others, the warm rays of the sun caress the lush, green grass as Princeton students lounge around in shorts, sundresses and flip flops. Today’s weather, however, was sunny yet slightly chilly, perfect for the Forbes College’s alumni dinner.

To refresh your memory and clue some new readers in, Forbes College is one of six residential colleges that house underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) and was where I lived for the first two years of my Princeton stay.

As a junior, I now no longer live in Forbes College, but great memories remain. Anyways, today was Cinco de Mayo, or May 5 in Spanish, which is a holiday celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico.

To commemorate the event, Forbes invited its upperclassmen back for dinner on the terrace. Dinner was delicious! The entree was exquisite and dessert was heavenly! And, after some reminiscing in the Forbes’ lobby and catching up with old friends, the day came to a close in a most contented way.

I’m now back in my dorm room studying for finals. It is currently the “Reading Period,” a week allocated for “reading” and studying for final examinations. In a week, final examinations will take place over two weeks.

Exams can take place in an examination room for three hours or can be take-home essays that need to be completed outside of a conventional examination room in 3 or 48 hours, depending on the course and professor.

    Anyway, back to studying!

    Sincerely, Laiyin
