World’s longest 3D painting on show in Hong Kong
     2011-June-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

TO promote the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Carnival from June 17 to 19, the world’s longest 3D painting, featuring a dragon boat, began a 10-day exhibition starting from Friday at Hong Kong’s Harbor City.

The 60-meter painting, entitled “Leaping Dragon,” also set a Guinness World Record for the world’s longest 3D painting. It was created by mainland artist Michael Qi, who has painted over 20 large 3D murals since 2005.

When the June 17-19 carnival starts, another giant dragon boat would be revealed attempting to break another world record, James Tien, chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), told a media conference Friday.

First held in 2010, the carnival is organized by the HKTB together with the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association.

The 2011 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races would be run during the carnival, which has attracted nearly 200 local and foreign teams, including new rowers from Canada, Japan and European countries.

“We hope this mega summer event…will not just increase the appeal of Hong Kong during the summer, but also further enhance the promotion of the city,” said Tien.
