Shenzhen Polytechnic students write about Universiade and their best wishes

The logo of Shenzhen Universiade

宁瑞群

Every major international sports meeting has an emblem, which represents the theme of the event and shows the culture and spirit of the host country.

The logo of the 26th Universiade is "Happy U," a symbol of happiness and openness. It is composed of three parts, including colored dots in the shape of a smiling face at the top, the words "Universiade SHENZHEN 2011" in the middle and five stars of different colors at the bottom.

Every colored dot is an element of the logo, like people from five continents going hand in hand to form a harmonious scene. The yellow dots are like Chinese athletes with yellow skin, winning medal after medal.

The black word "Universiade" represents the English name of the Games and "Shenzhen 2011" represents the host city.

The five stars at the bottom are painted in different colors -- red, green, yellow, blue and black, which refers to college students from five continents getting together in Shenzhen to participate in this sports meeting.

What's the meaning of the "U" then? It has multiple meanings, like university, you and union, as well as universe. But all in all, its meaning can be summarized in these themes -- Happy U, Youth U, World U and Future U. To me, it means we, the happy youth of Shenzhen, working as a bridge connecting the world and our city and moving towards a bright future.

The logo symbolizes the spirit of sports with an impressive style and feature. It shows not only the abstract aesthetics, but also our pride in being the host.

Hello, Universiade

刑曾妮 深圳职业技术学院

As time goes by, the 26th Shenzhen Universiade gets closer and closer.

All of Shenzhen's citizens are really proud of winning the right to host the 26th Universiade.

As a college student in Shenzhen, I joined the volunteers' group of the Universiade. Some people asked me why I applied for the job, because being a volunteer is so tiring and does not pay.

I do it for two simple reasons -- civic pride and enthusiasm. To the best of my knowledge, volunteering means being willing to help people in need and make contributions to society for no financial rewards.

In other words, being a volunteer of the Universiade must be a great chance to improve myself, and it will be one of the greatest and most unforgettable experiences of my life.

Hello, 26th Summer Universiade. I can't wait to meet you!

Believe in us, believe in Shenzhen

钟耀辉 深圳职业技术学院10电子一班

I am a volunteer for the 2011 Shenzhen Universiade.

"What can I do for the Universiade?" I asked myself. After some thinking, I decided that the best way is to volunteer.

This is a meaningful opportunity for me to repay my city and contribute to my country's cause. In this great historical event, I will become an ambassador for Shenzhen culture. I'm willing to try my best to serve this great event.

"What should I do as a volunteer?" I asked myself again.

The volunteer's etiquette is the most important. How will I be friendly with foreign athletes and tourists? And how can I deal with every possible situation? That is what I should learn. I deeply realize I represent not only my personal quality and image, but also our school -- Shenzhen Polytechnic, Shenzhen city and the whole of China.

The following words can summarize what I am going to do as a volunteer. They are: respect, patience, perseverance, courage and faith. I'll keep smiling, smiling like an angel, because the smile is the best language in the world.

Life is like a story. Don't wait for the perfect moment. Take the moment and make it perfect! Whatever your goal is, stick to it. Now the Universiade is coming. Let's be excellent volunteers!

Please believe in us. Please believe in Shenzhen!

Being a volunteer for the Universiade

陈易玲

The 26th Universiade is going to be held in Shenzhen from August 12-23. The Universiade is also known as the mini-Olympic and it is another major global sporting event with more than 10,000 athletes, judges, technical officials from more than 180 countries and regions expected to participate.

This occasion is a great honor for Shenzhen. Just as the slogan "Shenzhen Embraces the World" indicates, it will bring Shenzhen and the world together. As a Chinese, I am really proud of it.

So, what can we do to support the 2011 Universiade? Without a doubt, we should volunteer. Most volunteers of the 2011 Universiade were chosen from college students in Shenzhen.

Volunteers are not only offering services to tourists, but also acting as representatives for international culture exchange. We college students are young, energetic and easy to befriend. Our passion can easily affect the athletes and leave favorable impressions upon them.

It is not easy for us to be volunteers at the Universiade, because we need to pass different kinds of interviews and meet various requirements, such as have a well-shaped figure, good behavior and decent communication skills. As a student in Shenzhen Polytechnic, I am honored to pass all the tests and finally become a volunteer.

Being a volunteer at the 2011 Universiade is a precious chance for me. I will learn how to communicate with people from different backgrounds, understand the meaning of cooperation and get to know other countries' culture.

At the same time, it also presents a great challenge to my ability, as I have never been involved in such a big international event before. But I will try my best to accomplish my tasks successfully.

I am majoring in nursing, so I can apply my medical knowledge to the athletes who get ill or hurt while competing. That means I can gain much practical knowledge which cannot be learnt through textbooks. I believe it will be a life-changing experience, because maybe I won't have another chance to participate in such a magnificent activity.

I strongly believe that Shenzhen will host a wonderful Universiade to the world and she is moving towards a bright future.
