THE first agreement for compensation was reached yesterday between the family of one of the 39 victims in the train crash in Zhejiang Province and the local government.
The family of Lin Yan agreed to 500,000 yuan (US$77,500) in compensation from the Wenzhou government, where the crash happened.
Lin was from Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, where the two trains were heading.
The crash happened late Saturday when train D301 slammed into the rear of train D3115, leaving at least 39 people dead and 192 injured.
Also yesterday, local police disclosed the names of 28 who died.
Among them were Liguori Assunta, a female Italian national, and Cao Erxing, a Chinese-American.
Cao was from Fujian.
The U.S. Embassy in China confirmed yesterday that Cao was one of the two American citizens who died in the crash.
Of the others, 17 were from Zhejiang, six from Fujian, one from Anhui, one from Henan and one from Tianjin, police said.
All of the 39 bodies recovered from the crash wreckage had been claimed by relatives, the Wenzhou government said yesterday.
Further DNA tests would be conducted to confirm all the victims’ identities, a government spokesman said.(Xinhua)
