A DHARMA Wheel in northwestern Gansu Province has been recognized as the world’s largest by the China World Records Association, according to the government of Su’nan Yugur Autonomous County.
It will take four muscular men to turn the 150-ton Dharma Wheel that measures 9 meters in base diameter and 24.6 meters in height, said sources with the urban construction department of Su’nan Yugur Autonomous County.
Situated in the county’s birch woods, the landmark copper structure that covers 676 square meters was completed in July to cater to the worshiping needs of local Buddhists and to boost tourism, the sources said.
With a population of 40,000, Su’nan is China’s only Yugur autonomous county. Apart from the Yugur, nine other ethnic minorities live there, including Tibetans and Mongolians.
The China World Records Association, formally registered in Hong Kong in 2010, is a commercial organization that lists civilian world records that are unrelated to sports. (SD-Agencies)
