TEN Chinese movies received gongs at the Huabiao Awards ceremony in Beijing on Sunday.
The winners included “Aftershock,” “The Founding of a Republic,” “Shenzhou II,” “Yang Shanzhou,” “The Seal of Love,” “Under the Hawthorn Tree,” “The Piano in the Factory,” “Beginning of the Great Revival,” “Guo Mingyi” and “Sacrifice.”
Wang Jia and Shen Dong (“Shenzhou II”), as well as Han Sanping and Huang Jianxin (“The Founding of a Republic”) won the awards for best director.
The award for best actor in a leading role was shared by Li Xuejian who played Yang Shanzhou and Ge You who played Cheng Ying in “Sacrifice.” The award for best actress in a leading role was shared by Xu Fan (“Aftershock”) and Na Renhua (“Mother”).
Other winners included Hong Kong actor Chow Yun-fat, actress Sandra Ng and director Teddy Chen.
Zhou Dongyu won best new actress for her performance in “Under the Hawthorn Tree” and Wen Zhang won best new actor for portraying a young man suffering from autism in “Ocean Heaven.”
The Huabiao Awards are the highest official honor in China’s film industry.
Unlike other award ceremonies, Huabiao Awards for individual categories are often given to multiple nominees.
