TAIWANESE rocker Chyi Chin was rushed to hospital early Thursday morning after suffering deep second-degree burns at his home in Beijing.
According to a statement issued by Chyi’s agency, the 51-year-old singer was undergoing cupping therapy when the therapist accidentally spilt alcohol over him, causing a fire.
Chyi suffered burns to his back, face and chest, and is now conscious and in a stable condition.
His engagements for the next two to three months have been canceled to allow him to recuperate.
In an interview with a Chengdu daily, a spokeswoman from Chyi’s agency, known by her surname as Li, said: “Chyi will be hospitalized for at least 25 to 30 days and recovery would take two to three months.”
She declined to comment on whether the burns would cause any disfigurement, saying that doctors will make an announcement after determining the true extent of the injuries.
According to a burns expert, second-degree burns damage the surface of the skin and the tissue beneath and while they are not life-threatening, scarring is inevitable.
Chyi entered the show circle in 1981 before making it big with his hit album “Wolf” in 1985.
He dated former Hong Kong actress Joey Wong for 17 years before breaking up in 2002.
Chyi married his 27-year-old wife, Sun Liya, in Las Vegas in March 2010 and the couple welcomed their baby daughter, Bonnie, a year later. (SD-Agencies)
