Matthew Lien,one with nature
     2011-October-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Yukon-based world music singer, songwriter and producer Matthew Carl Lien will hold a concert at Shenzhen Concert Hall on Dec. 3.

Lien will perform a series of his influential works including "Bleeding Wolves," "Confluence," "Unicorn," "Grasshopper Flirting," "Chase the Clouds Away" and "Flail."

Lien was born in San Diego, the United States, in 1965. During his childhood, Lien would visit his father at Dezadeash Lake, Yukon, Canada, each summer. Eventually he moved there when he was 16. He fell in love with the region and has dedicated some of his music to it.

Lien taught himself to play the piano when he was 10 years old, and learned how to record and produce music in high school.

Ever since then, Lien has been engaged in recording, composing, performances and productions of world music. Lien evokes an atmosphere of landscapes such as icebergs in the Yukon region. He has also introduced the traditional Chinese musical elements. Lien has released 10 special albums.

As well as his musical career, he has enthusiastically participated in environmental protection activities. He is a co-founder of the Caribou Commons Project. He collaborated with a group of artists and activists to work for the permanent protection of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He has also produced two albums dedicated to the relevant projects — "Caribou Commons" and "Arctic Refuge."
