Lohan's community service
U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan arrived on time to her court-ordered community service at a morgue* on Friday, after nearly jeopardizing* her probation* one day earlier by turning up late and being refused entry.
The troubled star arrived prior to her 7 a.m. start at the Los Angeles County Morgue to begin court-ordered community service, performing tasks such as cleaning toilets, mopping* floors and emptying trash bins.
'Memory of 1942'
Renowned Chinese director Feng Xiaogang's next project, "Memory of 1942," will start shooting at the end of this month in Shanxi Province.
The 53-year-old director revealed that two Hollywood stars would be involved in the movie, but he declined to disclose their names. Other cast members include Zhang Guoli, Xu Fang and Wang Ziwen.
Adapted for the screen from writer Liu Zhenyun's 1993 novel of the same name, "Memory of 1942" tells of a famine* in Central China that claimed 3 million lives during the War of Resistance Against Japan.
Golden Rooster
A film about China's endeavor to send a manned mission into the space -- "Shen Zhou II" -- won the best film at the Golden Rooster Award on Saturday night.
The highly acclaimed "The Piano in a Factory," which has previously garnered a number of international awards, was given a special jury award.
Sun Chun and Na Renhua respectively won best actor and actress in a leading role for their work in "Qiu Xi" and "Mother."
Tokyo film fest
The skies cleared just in time for the celebrities to walk the eco-themed green carpet to the opening ceremony of the 24th Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) on Saturday afternoon.
With an early stage appearance by Jackie Chan scheduled before the ceremony, the Hong Kong star was the first big name to be seen at the Roppongi Hills Venue in central Tokyo where the fest is based.
For this edition of the festival, the theme of helping recovery from the disasters has joined the eco message that TIFF adopted in 2008.
