Joe Hisaishi’s music by local musicians
     2011-November-3  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A piano concert entitled “Summer” of Joe Hisaishi’s music will be given by Tan Xiaotang and Totoro Band at Shenzhen Concert Hall on Dec. 4.

“Summer” has been elaborately planned and created by Beijing Tianli Time International Performance Co. Ltd. It had a successful debut at Beijing Concert Hall on April 28.

Hisaishi is a Japanese musician known for his incidental music specially composed for Miyazaki Hayao’s popular animated films. To let Shenzhen audiences get a glimpse of Hisaishi’s brilliance, the organizer has prepared a wide collection of his representative works. The piano solos will include: “One Summer’s Day,” “Ballade,” “The Wind of Life” and “Summer;” special productions for piano and string bands: “Bolero” and “Madness;” and incidental music for animations including “Castle in the Sky” and “My Neighbor Totoro.”

As the winner of the 2004 Japan International Piano Competition, Tan has been given the responsibility of performing the piano solos.

Born in Beijing in 1979, Tan began to learn piano at the age of 5. He studied at the Central Conservatory of Music, the Munich Conservatory of Music and Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris.

Tan has made extensive tours of France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Poland, Portugal and Morocco and given performances at prestigious venues such as the Sydney Opera House and the National Center for the Performing Arts of China.
