    Night owl

    夜猫子

    Owl就是猫头鹰, night是夜晚。Night owl是什么意思呢?请看对话:

A: When shall I call you to discuss our proposal?

B: I’m a regular night owl. So if you want to talk business with me, the best time to phone is from 10 at night until two in the morning. That’s really the time when I’m wide awake and ready to work.

    A: Night owl?

B: Yeah, you know, the owl is a nocturnal creature which is very active at night. So you call someone who tends to stay up late into the night a night owl.

A: I see. Many young people these days are night owls. They go to sleep at the wee hours of the morning and get up late in the day.

B: Exactly. I’m one of them.

A: Interestingly there is a similar Chinese saying. In China we call such a person “夜猫子” which translates as a “night cat.”

    记住了吗?Night owl就是“夜猫子”。
