Noted Chinese poet Ke Yan dies at 82

    KE YAN, a well-known poet, writer and former member of the Secretariat of the China Writers Association, died of illness Sunday at the age of 82.

    Ke was born in Zhengzhou, in the central Chinese province of Henan, on July 14, 1929.

    In her early career, she mainly wrote children’s poetry. From 1976, she published a large number of poems, novels and plays, some of which were translated into different languages. Many of her works were included in textbooks for elementary and high schools as well as universities.

    Ke was a delegate at the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and a deputy at the eighth and ninth National People’s Congresses. She was also an honorary member of the National Committee of the China Writers Association.
