Madonna eyes film project inspired by royal couple
     2012-January-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Pop star Madonna said she may make a film inspired by Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, but not for a decade.

Madonna has already delved into* the heart of the British royal family, focusing on the love affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson in her latest film “W.E,” but now she is eyeing up the latest royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, as potential subjects for a future film project.

After marrying Guy Richie and moving to the United Kingdom, Madonna has taken a deep interest in the history of the country. “If I’m going to make myself more comfortable in this country, I’m going to have to learn some of its history,” said Madonna at the premiere of “W.E.”

Madonna explained that she started with the history of Henry VIII, but when she came across the period of Edward VIII’s rule, she was struck by what she discovered. “I was intrigued and mystified. Why would he do this? Men since the beginning of time have fought to get on the throne. Men are power-seeking animals, so why would this man run away from it?” she said about the man who gave up his throne for the woman he loved.

Now, Madonna is ready to take on the story of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, although she said that it is too early to make their film. “I would have to wait a decade first,” she said. Madonna thinks highly of Middleton, calling her chic and intelligent.

“W.E” is Madonna’s second directorial endeavor*. “I was terrified my first day on set. I saw all these burly crew men looking at me and thought, ‘Oh God, I have to tell them what to do every day.’ It requires working the left and right side of your brain and surviving on little sleep. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” she said.

Madonna won a Golden Globe award on Sunday for her soundtrack “Masterpiece” that she composed for her film. (SD-Agencies)
