    Lohan in taxing trouble

    The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of the United States has filed a lien* against the “Just My Luck” actress for US$93,701, claiming that she never paid her income tax for 2009.

    Should Lindsay Lohan fail to make good on the debt, the IRS could go after her possessions — property, vehicles, bank accounts — in an effort to collect.    

    Best HK film of 2011

    Ann Hui’s heart-warming drama “A Simple Life” has been named the best Hong Kong film of 2011, according to the Hong Kong Film Critics Society.

    The film, which tells the story of a young man who decides to take care of his family’s longtime nanny, won the title of best film at the 18th Annual Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards. Deanie Yip also picked up the award for best actress for her role as the nanny.    

    People’s Choice Awards big winner

    The singer-actress Kate Perry won the most People’s Choice Awards at last Wednesday’s 38th annual fan-favorite extravaganza. Perry was honored in five categories, including favorite female artist, tour headliner, song of the year for “E.T.” with Kanye West, music video for “Last Friday Night” and TV guest star for “How I Met Your Mother.”    

    Miss America Pageant

    A 23-year-old beauty queen from Kenosha, Wisconsin won the Miss America pageant* in Las Vegas, the United States on Saturday night.

    Laura Kaeppeler won the pageant after strutting in a white bikini and black beaded evening gown, singing opera and answering a question about whether beauty queens should declare their politics by saying Miss America represents everyone.
