AN armed man robbed a jewelry shop in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, yesterday, taking goods with a market value of 300,000 yuan (US$42,000), local police said.
The suspect, wearing a motorcycle helmet and a yellow jacket, broke into the store on Huancheng Road West in Huicheng District at 9:30 a.m., holding a long gun, according to the shop manager surnamed Lin.
There were a dozen employees at the store.
The suspect was alone and did not fire a shot, Lin said.
Police said about 1 kg of gold jewelry had been robbed and they had set up a special task force to follow the case.
It was the third armed robbery of a jewelry shop in the city since June last year.
The previous two cases, involving goods worth 1 million yuan each — one in a shopping mall in the same district and the other in Zhongkai high-tech zone — had been solved, police said.
