The city's Children's Palace in Futian District held nearly 10 types of free cultural and interactive activities during the Spring Festival, attracting more than 1,000 children to celebrate the festival together.
The activities included free movies, art performances, exhibitions, carnivals and art exchanges, the palace staff said.
Among those, an art performance held on January 25 was the most popular. More than 100 children chose to perform for other children and their parents.
"It was an exciting event. They were dancing, singing, and playing instruments and martial arts on the stage, and all of these performances were directed by themselves," said Wu Hongmei, mother of a 7-year-old.
Free movies included "Astro Boy," "Jaws" and "Hero." More than 500 migrant workers staying in Shenzhen for the festival were also invited to enjoy the movies.
Several exhibitions in science, art and technology also were held during the seven-day holiday.
"The art exhibition featured artworks painted by Candian children and they were full of imagination, quite different than the paintings we painted," said a student called Sun Siyu, who has studied oil painting for six years. "It was really nice to see their works."
