Meaning:
“吐” means to “spit,” and “槽” is a “trough” or “tank.” The phrase “吐槽” came from Fujian dialect, meaning to “spit into other people’s bowl” literally. The inference is to criticize other people in their faces. But more and more used on the Internet, it simply means to “complain, defile or abuse.”
Example:
A: 好久不见了,小丽。你的大学生活愉快吗?
Hǎojǐu bújiàn le, xiǎolì。Nǐ de dàxué shēnghuó yúkuài ma?
Long time no see, Xiao Li. How is your life in college?
B: 一般。宿舍太挤、网速太
慢、食堂的饭菜不好吃。
Yībān。Sùshè tài jǐ、wǎngsù tài màn、shítáng de fàncài bù hǎochī。
So so. The dorm room is too crowded, the Internet is too slow, and the food in the canteen is not tasty.
A: 你就别吐槽了,总好过我在工厂打工吧。
Nǐ jìu bíe tǔcáo le, zǒng hǎoguò wǒ zài gōngchǎng dǎgōng ba。
Stop complaining. You are way better off than me. I have to work in a factory.
