Mayday calls for enthusiasm
     2012-March-5  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Taiwanese alternative rock band Mayday will show up at Gymnasium of Shenzhen Bay Sports Center on March 31 to perform a collection of their works over the past two decades.

The band has a vast back catalog from the following albums: “The First Special Album of Mayday’s Creation” (1999), “Viva Love” (2000), “Time Machine” (2003), “God’s Children Are All Dancing/Flying Angels With a Falling Soul” (2004), “Born to Love” (2006), “The Poetry of Day After” (2008) and “Second Round” (2011).

The band’s members are Ashin (vocalist), Monster and Stone (lead guitarists), Masa (bassist) and Guan You (drummer).

Mayday evolved from SoBand which was formed by Ashin, Monster and the original drummer Qian Youda in 1995 while they were in senior high school. They were later joined by Masa and Stone, who were attending the same school. After graduation, the members went to different universities but continued to perform in pubs and eateries. They were also actively involved in promoting rock music in Taiwan. In 1997, the band registered under the moniker Mayday.

Most of the band’s songs are written in Mandarin. They are popular for their campus ballad roots, and their ability to capture the Zeitgeist of Taiwanese youth in the mid to late 1990s..
