Shenzhen Drama Week to open
     2012-March-22  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN Drama Week is scheduled to be held in Shixia Theater in Futian District between March 25 and 27.

The event will feature a variety of classic dramas from home and abroad. Tickets for each performance will cost between 30 (US$4.72) and 150 yuan.

International award-winning play, “Copenhagen” will open the event, which stars well-known Chinese actors such as Liang Guoqing and Yang Qing.

The play is directed by Wang Xiaoying, vice chairman of the China Theater Association, and has been staged in China more than 100 times, achieving considerable popularity.

The play is in the form of a conversation between three scientists discussing their own sufferings.

In addition, there will be a drama forum March 27, World Theater Day, which will be followed by a Beijing opera show in the evening.

Musical drama, “Shakespeare’s Love Letter,” will be staged for free on the last two days of the event. Artists from Theater Noir, a theater from Hong Kong, will interpret the love puzzles of four young men in the play.

Zhao Jia, who is in charge of a local drama promotion project, said the event is a showcase not just of acting talent, but also for artists, students and technological innovators. Zhao said more exchanges are needed to help export Chinese drama around the world.

Shenzhen Drama Week is expected to be turned into an annual event while Futian District, a central district in the city, is striving to become the drama center of Shenzhen.
