WITH 128 performances staged by artists from various countries and regions, the 23rd Macao Arts Festival is to be held between May 1 and June 2, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region announced Wednesday.
The festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau, will bring together theater, traditional and modern dance, Chinese and Western music, multimedia exhibitions and visual art by artists from Macao, Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, the United States and Argentina, according to the bureau.
This year’s festival features some 33 programs comprising 128 shows, which is the largest number in the festival’s history and represents a great opportunity for Macao residents to appreciate different cultures and arts, said Ung Vai-meng, president of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.
According to the bureau, highlights of the festival include the Beijing opera show “Su Wu of the Han Dynasty,” by the China National Beijing Opera Theater; a new version of the classic, poignant love tragedy, “A Dream of Red Mansions,” by Cantonese Opera; the American Mark Morris Dance Group’s “Mozart Dances;” local drama; and a new multimedia theater.
