The dance-pop and pop rock song was released as the first single from the rerelease of Perry’s album, “Teenage Dream.” The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the 20th song to do so and Perry’s 7th number one single on the chart. Although its accompanying music video garnered generally positive reviews, it managed to draw criticism from feminist author Naomi Wolf, who claimed it to be military propaganda.
