Israeli cellist Mischa Maisky and his pianist daughter, Lily, will perform May 26 at Shenzhen Concert Hall.
The program will include Schubert’s “Sonata for Arpeggione and Piano in a Minor, D. 821” and Brahms’ “Cello Sonata in E Minor, Op. 38.”
Maisky was born as the younger brother of organist and harpsichordist Valery Maisky (1942-1981). He was born in Latvia and educated in Russia and repatriated to Israel.
Maisky has been well received in London, Paris, Berlin, Vienna and Tokyo, along with many other major music centers. As an exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist for the last 25 years, Maisky has made more than 30 recordings.
He considers himself as a citizen of the world: “I’m playing an Italian cello, with French and German bows, Austrian and German strings. My daughter was born in France, my oldest son in Belgium, the middle one in Italy and the youngest one in Switzerland. I’m driving a Japanese car, wear a Swiss watch, an Indian necklace and I feel at home everywhere where people appreciate and enjoy classical music.”
Lily Maisky was born in 1987, moving to Brussels soon after. She began playing the piano at the age of 4. Lily was a pupil at the Purcell School of Music from 2001 to 2004. She also studied jazz piano. Lily enjoys playing chamber music as well as solo piano and forms a regular duo with Mischa Maisky.
