Shanghai stand-up comedian Zhou Libo will give a show Saturday at Shenzhen Bay Sports Center.
Born in 1967, Zhou specializes in observational humor about urban life and economic and political issues. He uses a mixture of Mandarin, Shanghai dialect and some English words.
In China, traditional stand-up comedy involves a pair of performers engaged in conversation and only periodically breaking the fourth wall. Zhou’s style tends to have only one performer speaking to the audience, a feature more associated with Western stand-up comedy.
In late 2008, Zhou created his own stand-up comedy called “Shanghai-style Small Talk” which includes “A Laughable Talk on the Past 30 Years” and “A Laughable Talk in Big Shanghai.”
