Film producer Richard D. Zanuck dies

Veteran Hollywood executive Richard D. Zanuck, the prolific* producer behind the blockbuster shark thriller "Jaws," the best-picture Oscar-winner "Driving Miss Daisy" and a string of Tim Burton fantasies, died of a heart attack on July 13 at age 77.

Zanuck, who spent the bulk of his career as an independent producer, earned numerous awards during more than 50 years in filmmaking.

Among his accolades* were the Academy Award he shared with his wife and collaborator, Lili Fini Zanuck, for their work on "Driving Miss Daisy," and the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for his work with longtime associate David Brown.

Tarantino unchains bloody 'Django' at Comic-Con

Quentin Tarantino is redefining race relations in the pre-Civil War South with "Django Unchained," his Western-style saga* that he previewed at the Comic-Con fan convention.

Tarantino said on July 14 that he has been wanting to do a Western for ages and that the idea for "Django Unchained" first came to him 13 years ago. It promises to be a typically bloody Tarantino action tale, with Foxx and Waltz raining bullets on bad guys. "Django Unchained" debuts in theaters this December.

Chow Yun-fat to end the year with 'The Last Tycoon'

Actor Chow Yun-fat says he is looking forward to ending the year in style with his film "The Last Tycoon" which will be released in December.

Chow told media while celebrating the conclusion of the filming: "This year-end is going to be a wonderful movie-going season." The season will see Jackie Chan's "CZ12," Stephen Chow's "New Chinese Odyssey," and Wong Kar-wai's "The Grandmasters."

Cruise, Holmes reach divorce settlement

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have reached a "private" settlement less than two weeks after she announced their acrimonious* divorce - and vowed to honor each other's beliefs over their daughter.

The Hollywood pair issued a joint statement pledging to act in the "best interests" of 6-year-old Suri, and to take account of their "respective beliefs" in her upbringing - an apparent reference to Scientology.
