SHENZHENERS can enjoy a rich selection of Chinese and Western performances throughout the remainder of this year, with Juooo, one of the largest performance companies in Guangdong, presenting more than 40 shows in the city during its fall/winter performance season.

The performance season starts with a concert by popular Taiwan singer Tiger Huang (Huang Xiaohu) on Sept. 29 and ends with a grand concert by Royal Scottish National Orchestra on New Year’s Eve.

The government will give an unprecedented amount of support to the performances this season, enabling citizens to enjoy some shows at extra-low prices, according to Hu Jun, Shenzhen area manager of Juooo.

Ticket prices for the Tiger Huang concert start at only 30 yuan, while ticket prices for the concert by Nurnberg Symphony Orchestra (Sept. 30) start at only 50 yuan. To apply for cheap tickets, log on to the Web site of Futian government (www.szft.gov.cn) or fwdt.szft.gov.cn/indexbook.jsp. People can apply for subsidized tickets which can be as cheap as 30 yuan. The Web site is all in Chinese, so have a Chinese friend translate if necessary.

The performance season will include popular music concerts, classic concerts, stage performances, and children’s stage dramas.

The pop concerts will be held by Japanese bossa nova artist Lisa Ono (Dec. 29), Malaysian pop star Victor Wong (Dec. 24), German pop musician Maximilian Hecker (Oct. 31), Chinese pop duo Phoenix Legend (Nov. 24), and Taiwan “Father of Folk Songs” Hu Dehu (Nov. 17).

For fans of classical music, 121-year-old Royal Scottish National Orchestra will perform on New Year’s Eve and its performance will include the countdown to the start of the new year. It will be the orchestra’s first performance in Asia.

On Christmas Day, the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, a popular orchestra in the United States, will hold a concert. On Dec. 27, the Dunshan Symphonic Wind Orchestra, the first and only fully privately funded orchestra on the Chinese mainland, will perform.

Piano fans will enjoy solo concerts by young Chinese artists including Chen Sa (Nov. 24), Jia Ran (Oct. 20) and Wang Shiran (Dec. 8).

The performance season will have a wide selection of children’s dramas ranging from a Chinese shadow play (Sept. 15) to award-winning show “Thumbelina” (Oct. 4). The ticket prices of the children’s dramas range from 50 to 200 yuan.

Stage drama fans can enjoy the all-English drama “King Lear,” to be performed by British theater TNT on Dec. 2, among others.

“The Peony Pavilion” adapted by Taiwan scholar Bai Xianyong, a must-see for lovers of Chinese culture, will be staged Dec. 4.

For tickets, call 400-185-8666 or log on www.juooo.com.
